Let’s face it remodels can seem daunting!

There is a process and I continue to sharpen my tools and provide a better idea of expectations. The creative aspect is just a portion of the scope.

We review the needs, wants and decide what can be accomplished within reason based on the amount agreed upon.

If we are redoing the floors, we should consider new trim, vent covers, new toilets, vanities, taping off the furniture and rooms so the clean-up is not a total shit show!

Where are we going to store these items to ensure we have them all in before the project starts. How long should you expect to be out of the house for some of this? I learned from a very savvy client that setting up a make-shift coffee, drink, and snack bar in an area not under construction is a smart thing to do. If you are doing new hardwoods, they should be at the house around 5 days to 2 weeks. Pick a new sink and plumbing fixtures as well as your appliances if you are replacing them where new countertops are going.

Make room for a roll off in your driveway and make sure it is approved. Don’t plan on parking your car in the garage for a bit.

Make sure your fridge is cleaned out before appliance movers come to move to the garage so the floors can be done.

If your cabinets are going to be painted, now is the time to find new hardware.

When selecting your tile you will need grout, caulk, trim pieces (Schluter, bullnose, deco trim).

With all of these tips, the team is where it’s at! I am so lucky to work with Remodelex and I know my clients feel like the process is smooth. Their contract is clear and they keep a dry erase board at the house with what is happening on what day. We receive daily photo’s of the work that is completed. Communication is key.

Making your list and checking it twice!

Designs by Kristy is headed to The Las Vegas Market to find cutting edge furnishings so let me know what you want to add to your Dear Santa list in July. I love heading to market so I can actually touch, feel and, see all the hottest new furnishings, accessories, lighting, art, hardware, silk plants, rugs and much more.

Your light fixtures are another layer of art without competing with your art.

Check out these blue leather chairs with the buckles for your family room or office!

What about bold, clean modern pendants with gold inside of the pendant for your bathroom flanking your mirrors and maybe doing a few in different heights.

Have you thought of doing your office or powder ceiling in a wood veneer tea garden wallpaper to create a distinguished rich space.

Your stools and dining chairs can be sexy. Look at the metal on this stool. It is the jewelry complimenting the outfit.

Who would have thought of hanging your throws like this?

For those of you that don’t have a green thumb, stay out of Hobby Lobby when you are thinking of filling your rooms up with greenery and florals. Designing silks for your space is an art in itself and it should not look like you just threw all you favorite plants together to create a bushel in a planter. Your silks should look real.

Your end tables can become a conversation piece.

No more getting hammered and ending up at your neighbor’s house by mistake!

It is obvious that inventory is low so many of us are led to buy a new home. So many of us are tired of the one tree in the middle of the yard, 4 shrubs lined against the front window, builder grade choice lights, siding and the same neighborhood stone. Don’t get me started on the interior choices! I think you guys get the gist of what I am venting about. Now for the ideas and inspiration. I know you guys can walk into Crate and Barrel and other box stores that you love but do the stores help make your home stand out? No more getting hammered and ending up at the wrong house! I am here to get you excited about your unique home that reflects your style.

Who says you have to keep the builder grade doors to your pantry. What do you think about changing your doors to this look?

Think of walking into your study or family room through these doors.

Your ceilings don’t have to be so plain.

Your cabinets don’t all have to be the same. Make one area stand out.

Change up your garage doors and try new lighting instead of the builder grade.

Do different wall features and textures in your rooms and they can still compliment the other rooms.

And last but not least, if you don’t know how to cohesively make these rooms flow and design your house, DBK is here for you.

Why hire an interior designer?

Why hire an Interior Designer?

What is our true value?

Materials Master * Project Manager * Contract * Color Expert * Psychologist * Psychic * Peacemaker * Furniture Designer * Space Planner * Fabric Magician * Mood Maker * Lighting Designer * Purchasing Agent * Team Leader * Time Management Ninja * Resource Professional * Creative Genius * Marketing Maverick

Here are 6 reasons why you might want to work with an interior designer—for projects large and small.

1)      INTERIOR DESIGNERS ARE OFTEN PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED

Kristy holds a Bachelor Degree in Interior Design and an Associates Degree in Architectural Design. She frequently attends trade markets and conferences to ensure your home is a unique one-of-a-kind reflection of your style and function. Kristy has over 20 years experience in Interior Design and sweats the small stuff. Did you measure the staircase to ensure your sectional will fit in the basement? Will your marble slab fit through the front door and the various rooms to be successfully installed without cracking in your designated space?

2)      DESIGNERS BRING FRESH EYES AND UNEXPECTED IDEAS

With a creative mind and an adventurous soul, Kristy travels globally and visits trade markets to provide a finger on the pulse in the design world. Her creative touch is a great addition to bring magic and entertainment to you throughout the design process. It is hard not to love her and feel the connection.

3)      THEY'RE MORE LIKELY TO MAKE SURE YOUR GORGEOUS SPACE IS ACTUALLY FUNCTIONAL

With 20 years of experience in construction of furniture she can procure beautiful and comfortable furniture that fits each one of her clients.

4)      YOU’LL GET ACCESS TO THEIR INSIDER NETWORK OF TRADESPEOPLE

You’ll be introduced to vendors that you do not see in every day box stores. In short, your interiors won’t be in your neighbor’s home. We’re here to “LEVEL UP THE JONES!”

5)      THEY CAN COMMISSION CUSTOM ELEMENTS NOT READILY AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC

Kristy has great access to local artisans that have collaborated in creating art and furnishings.

6)      YOU’LL GET IT RIGHT, ONCE AND FOR ALL

Pick Kristy’s brain. She knows that buckskin leather should never be in a high traffic area, but pebbled leather is great to wrap on a kitchen island because of its durability. Terracotta tile is great for residential use but should never go in a commercial space. Porcelain is very durable and can take a lick and keep on ticking. Wallpaper is a great layer to provide in a home, but you can’t just slap it on a wall you have many steps prior like skim coating and priming with the proper gardz.

Let’s talk about boldness…

My mission is to get you to think big, different, and bold! Your unique style is like your DNA. Why would you design your home any other way? It is important to make sure you are designing to fit your life and not making your home beautiful for the next owner. Playing it safe doesn’t inspire anyone. Playing small doesn’t make an impact. What does make a difference in your life is when you entertain and live in a space that evokes feeling! Think about your favorite pair of shoes, a sweater, or underwear! What do those things evoke? (Hint: Probably excitement!) Another thing I like to tell clients is to not be afraid of pattern; especially pattern on pattern! Patterns can take on MANY different looks, but can actually compliment each other very well! My challenge to you is to try a fun pattern that invites a smile! SHOW OFF your unique style because there is no one else like you!
